Opel: EU won’t tolerate “economic nationalism”, says Verheugen

European Commissioner Gunter Verheugen, responsible for Enterprise and Industry, told a press conference on Thursday that the European Commission will not accept “economic nationalism” in the rescue package that currently is being negotiated over German car maker Opel, a unit of General Motors of the U.S..

The European Commission has the power to block a rescue deal if it’s considered detrimental to the European market.
