In Brussels, European heads of state on Thursday and Friday will meet to decide on giving the current EU Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso, another five-year term.
Former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt also is candidate for the position of President of the European Commission, the executive body of the European Union.
If the presidents and prime ministers of the 27 EU countries don’t make a choice this week, Verhofstadt’s chances could increase considerably.
In January 2006, Verhofstadt gave an interview to Raymond Frenken, who at the time was EU Correspondent for CNBC Europe. The part of the interview in which Verhofstadt reflects on the future of Europe was never used by the channel, but now is exclusively available here on EUX.TV.
