UN Security Council Agrees Resolution to Ban Nuclear Weapons

The United Nations Security Council this week agreed a resolution to ultimately ban nuclear weapons. The US will host a summit next April to fight the proliferation of nuclear materials and calls on all countries, notably Iran, to freeze programmes to develop nuclear weapons. The resolution also is to strengthen the non-proliferation treaty, which puts extra pressure on Iran and North Koreao to give in to international demands to cease producing materials that can be used to make nuclear weapons. www.guardian.co.uk
