The EUs High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton announced, on 22 February, that she will visit Haiti during the first week of March. The trip is intended, she said, to underline our continued support for the countrys post-earthquake reconstruction, to bring renewed attention to the ongoing crisis, particularly for children and to prepare for the upcoming donors conference in New York. The trip comes after more than a month of bad press over her decision not to visit the devastated nation immediately after the 12 January earthquake.
