BRUSSELS – Is Europe still an attractive place to invest when looking at the world from a global perspective? That will be one of the key questions to be addressed at the 2010 World Investment Conference (WIC) in La Baule, a French resort on the Atlantic coast, when global business leaders and policy makers travel there at the beginning of next month. European Council President Herman van Rompuy will be one of the keynote speakers.
In an interview with EUX.TV, Jean-Bernard Guerree, chief executive of the WIC, said the conference seeks to establish new investment opportunities in Europe. The financial and economic crisis in the euro zone, he said, should not be seen as a crisis but as a “transition time”.
“We have an opportunity to re-invent ourselves, take the lead in many areas, such as innovation, clean-tech, high-tech and really show a different way of doing things,” he said. “We are the most powerful economic power in the world and we have all the assets needed. The research, the talents, the social model, the education system. Everything is in place for us to succeed. It’s really a matter of putting these ingredients together so that they will result in a delicious dish that will open the appetite of the investors.”
