European Council President Herman van Rompuy on Thursday warned against plans to change European Union treaties, such as proposed by several EU member states like France and Germany who wish to create an ‘economic government’ for eurozone countries. Van Rompuy made his comments during a press conference in Berlin, where he met earlier with German chancellor Angela Merkel. The meeting took place one week ahead of a meeting between the union’s heads-of-state-and-government in Brussels. next Thursday.
