Following on from Japan’s continuing nuclear crisis sparked by Friday’s massive earthquake and tsunami, EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger on Tuesday announced a ‘general agreement’ for EU wide stress tests. The stress tests will be voluntary but are expected to be undertaken by all concerned member states. Speaking in his native German, Oettinger said that “Europe must consider a forseeable future” without nuclear energy.
