At the European Parliament in Strasbourg, MEP’s and the heads of the EU institutions gathered to outline the main agenda for the upcoming EU Summit at the end of March. The ‘competitiveness pact’ a Merkel Sarkozy joint solution to economic harmonisation presented the last EU Summit, is set to be the most contentious issue tackled. Guy Verhofstadt believes that it should be launched as an EU initiative at EU level, rather than being the result of agreements between the EU27 Member States.
