Van Rompuy: Summit is not attempt to attack EU’s welfare state

Ahead of this week’s EU Summit in the Council in Brussels Herman van Rompuy has called the ‘Competitiveness pact’ presented by Angela Merkal, and Nicholas Sarkozy an important tool in Europe’s economic future, and a way to alleviate Europe spiralling sovreign debt crisis. He also attempted to alleviate EU citizens fears that the Summit would lead to more austerity and pain throughout the continent, saying it would not be an ‘ attack on the EU;s welfare state’
